Gothenburg is vulnerable to global economic pressures but local authorities are confident that their strategies will see the city ride out current uncertainties.

Frankfurt (Oder) is attracting international investment, as well as commuters from nearby Berlin.

Hungary’s politics – perceived by some as insular – might have drawn flak, but they have certainly not deterred investors. Officials say the country’s stability is successfully attracting FDI as well as substantial reinvestment, while exports recently hit a high, as Courtney Fingar reports.  

The transportation and warehousing and storage sectors form the backbone of the logistics industry, and it is the UK and Mexico that are attracting the most FDI in this field, although the US and China also score well on a country basis, while on a city level Dubai and Singapore have proved popular. 

Famed for its bourbon, horse racing and fried chicken, Kentucky's economy is roaring thanks to the collective successes of these three industries. State officials are keen to further diversify the economy, however, and promote less traditional sectors such as logistics and technology.

Natural resources, namely oil, have fuelled Middle Eastern economies for the past few decades, but the region's location at a meeting point between East and West also gives it a distinct advantage in the logistics field, something many of its countries are cashing in on.

Logistics providers are becoming an ever more crucial component in the supply chain, as businesses recognise the importance of being able to move products to any location, quickly.
